2021-3 To Share Or Not To Share, That Is The Questions!

We must bear in mind that our social media posts are a blessing for hackers planning attacks for social engineering purposes and we give this information with our own hands.

On social media, we sometimes post project information about our business and sometimes with our personal data. Being aware of these shares, we must pay attention to what we share with whom.

NEWS OF THE MONTH

Facebook again!

Facebook is in the spotlight with a massive data leak. Data on a total of 533 million accounts were stolen globally, including 19.6 million users in Turkey. Data from the cybercrime forum, which publishes information about Facebook users, reportedly includes phone numbers, Facebook IDs,  dates of birth, gender and location  information. The social media company said the information was collected in 2019.

TIP OF THE MONTH

Do you use the same password in all of them when you sign up for sites that require social media, shopping and similar memberships? If so, a data leak on a website means that your access to all sites has been infiltrated. Using multi-factor verification (SMS, Authenticator, etc.) methods for all possible platforms means you have more secure access.

How’s that?

For example, let’s say you become a member of a site accessed from the alisverissitesi.com address. In the meantime, one more small suggestion is that you use an email address for shopping sites, a separate email address for social media sites, and a separate email address for a much more serious business-related site that can help you classify announcements and notifications from sites you belong to. In addition, you should not sign up with your corporate e-mail belonging to the institution you belong to.

Now to the password generation algorithm:

Let’s write the name of the website to be signed up, a special number for us, the name of favorite location.

Site name: alisverissitesi.com

Special number for me: 27

Favorite location: Antalya

Here’s how we can set up the algorithm: First letter of the site’s name (upper case), second letter (lower case), a special number for you, a special character you specify (+%&/!) the last 3 letters of a favorite location or your birthplace, special character, and ending with a dot.

Here is our password generated according to this algorithm to sign up alisverissitesi.com web site with my e-mail address benim.adresim@tuketici.com:

Al27%lya&.

Contains uppercase, lowercase, number, special character and 10 characters
