Social Media Account Management
Before Creating a New KU-Related Social Media Account
Managing a social media account effectively is a substantial responsibility that is more challenging than it may seem. Here are some questions to consider before establishing a new Koç University-related social media account:
Who will manage the account(s)?
Have you evaluated your goals and objectives for each social media platform?
Are there any existing University channels that share similar content that you plan to share?
Will you create a weekly/monthly posting schedule? How frequently do you plan to share content?
Which sources do you plan to use in creating your content?
Are you considering using social media management tools?
If you want to create a new social media account related to Koç University, you must first obtain the permission of your unit manager and Communication Office.
Once a new account request is approved, the email addresses, phone numbers, and names of account managers with access to the Communication Office and IT-Marketing Technologies team should be provided.
Please ensure that your passwords are created in accordance with Koç University's Password Security Policy to achieve the highest level of account security.
How to Register for Social Media Accounts with KU Email
Instagram, X, TikTok: Do not use personal email addresses when creating accounts. Instead, use a general university email address such as your unit or department's email. This practice eliminates the risk of losing access to the account in the event that the account manager leaves the university.
Facebook, LinkedIn: These accounts should have at least two administrators because they are created through personal social media accounts. This arrangement enables the swift removal of access for individuals who are no longer permitted access due to separation from the university or other reasons.
Account Management
Remember to review the Social Media Best Practices for Account Security page. Ensure that your account management aligns with the items outlined here.
Pay attention to ensuring that the accounts you create are not 'personal' but rather 'professional' accounts.
All social media accounts should be kept up to date, with regular postings and active monitoring.
Each social media network serves unique audiences, purposes, and methodologies. It is crucial to ensure that your content is conveyed through the appropriate channel, using the right approach, and reaching the intended audience effectively.
Ensure that the content aligns with the University brand, and conduct checks on posts before publication to prevent communication errors.
Do not forget that the unauthorized use of images or videos, especially those featuring people's faces, is inappropriate and, in some cases, illegal.
Include appropriate keywords and hashtags to appeal to people looking for relevant content.
Engage with your followers. Monitor comments and questions and respond to all questions appropriately.
Don't forget to use analysis tools to ensure that your social media accounts are progressing in accordance with the strategies you have determined. This will help you enhance your content management as well.
