Summary
Turnitin is a tool that supports student writing and academic integrity. It checks submitted assignments for text similarity against content from the web, publications, and Turnitin’s database of submitted student papers.
At Koç University, Turnitin is integrated with LearnHub, allowing faculty to use Turnitin when creating assignments in their courses.
Turnitin works via text-matching. It checks writing against existing publications on the web and its internal database of student papers, color coding matches based on the source. It assigns an originality number based on the percentage of the text with no match.
Features
Turnitin uses text-matching technology to identify similarities between submitted papers and existing sources. Similarities are highlighted in the Similarity Report, which shows the matching text and the sources where the matches were found.
The Similarity Report can help faculty and students review citations, paraphrasing, and the use of sources. A similarity score does not by itself indicate plagiarism; the report should be reviewed in context.

How do I access Turnitin?
Turnitin can be accessed through LearnHub. Faculty can enable Turnitin when creating a Turnitin-enabled assignment in their course.
Students can access Turnitin through the relevant assignment in LearnHub and submit their papers according to the assignment settings.
