Proper Ethernet cable should be plugged into the Data sockets that start with the letter "D---" on the room walls.

Most of the time once the user plugs the device to the data port he/she can access the Internet without a need to install or configure any software.

If the port you are using is not active your network connection will fail. You can request the port to be activated by submitting a Trackit.
